THE RACE
Welcome to the Rakaumangamanga Cape Brett Challenge! A legendary race in its own right, with just a couple of mountains to conquer, and with the most spectacular views of the many islands scattered around the bay, this race is definitely a must for any trail runner. There is simply nothing quite like this tough and gruelling challenge…. if the rugged steep climbs and descents don't get you then the slippery wet clay surface will keep you sliding and slipping.
Starting and finishing on Kaingahoa Marae in Rawhiti, this race is a cultural exploration of the lush vegetation found in Northland. You get to immerse yourself in the early Maori history, native subtropical habitat, dropping down to white sandy beaches, whilst listening to the melody of the many species of birds living in this sanctuary. Following the historical tracks that were formed by Maori and whalers of the past. These iconic trails reveal many tales from the past and give you a glimpse of what life was once like with many relics visible throughout the course.
